Restoration Update #10: Are we there yet?

My eldest daughter has reached the wonderful stage where every journey has at least one “Are we there yet?” and “Why is it taking so long?”. I’m sure many of you are wondering the same about the Old Schoolhouse. While we’ve been fortunate to be able to continue the project through lockdown, it hasn’t been particularly straightforward. The team has faced COVID-19 related delays, including restricted access to the site at the front, supply chain issues and restricted numbers onsite. We recently had a break-in that we had to deal with and are thankful for Police Scotland’s quick response and arrest. While frustrating for all, we’re extremely grateful for the grit and determination of all the teams involved to continue to work hard to reach the end goal of a beautifully restored, functional, multi-purpose space that will serve the community for generations to come.

This will be the last photo update before the restoration project is completed in February/March. I’d like to thank everyone who has shown an interest, donated, and worked or volunteered on this project including but not limited to Mills+McCullough Architects, Smith & McMath (Main Contractor), Robert Wilson & Son Electrical, Arniston Consulting, Thomson Gray (Contract Administrator), Safe Simple Secure (Security Contractor) and the World Wide Technology team.

We hope you’ll be able to visit the Old Schoolhouse in the near future. Keep an eye out for the final video, updated website and our social media pages.
